Polylactic acid is the active ingredient in Sculptra® (a fruit sugar). Lactic acid is a naturally occurring component in the body, and this is a chain of it. Sculptra ® stimulates your body's natural collagen production. This is great for increasing volume and plumping up areas that have lost volume as a result of aging or weight loss.

How Sculptra® Works
Polylactic acid (fruit sugar chains) encourages the production of new collagen in your body. Your body continues to produce new collagen as you age, but it breaks down more than it produces (you lose 1 percent of your net collagen every year after the age 30). Sculptra® prevents net loss in all the correct spots! This new collagen synthesis gives skin a more youthful smoothness and subtle plumpness.
What to Expect
There is some initial swelling following the first Sculptra® treatment. This gives you a sneak peek at how the repair will look. After around 48 hours, the swelling will have subsided and only minor changes will be seen. There will be a slight volume change four to six weeks after therapy. Treatments should be repeated. Dr. Jin will customize the amount of treatment vials according on how much correction is needed; the technique may appear to work rapidly. The gains last for several years on average, and the process can be repeated as needed for maintenance. Prep for your treatment: To reduce bruising, avoid taking the following medications for as least 7 days before your injections: • Anti - inflammatory medications such as aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aleve, and others. • Omega - 3 supplements of any kind, such as fish oil, flax seed oil, and so on. • Vitamin E
